What Construction Managers Do

Construction managers manage the activities or residential

construction projects from start to finish. They are usually

employed by medium to large homebuilders.

Work Environment

Many construction managers work from a main office, but most

work out of a field office at the construction site, where they

monitor the project and make daily decisions about construc-

tion activities. For those managing multiple projects, frequent

travel between sites is required.

KNOWLEDGE OF HOME BUILDING TRADES is essential

for understanding and overseeing all aspects of residential

construction projects.

PLANNING AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS are needed to

schedule tasks, manage resources, and ensure projects are

completed on time and within budget.

LEADERSHIP AND MOTIVATIONAL SKILLS are important

for guiding employees, subcontractors, and suppliers toward

successful project completion.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS are critical for collaborating with

clients, suppliers, and team members, as well as preparing and

presenting progress reports.

PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS are required to address challenges

and make decisions that keep projects on track.
