This book exists as a resource for you!
It was written with the intention of
helping shine a bright spotlight on the
skilled trades and their many facets and
fine qualities. So feel free to highlight,
underline, circle, notate, or otherwise
mark up these pages in whatever way
will help you process the information and
keep track of the things that resonated
with you. If you spotted a career path or
training opportunity that you’d like to learn more about, make note
of it for later.
Discuss with your parents
and your family
Parents and family members have ideas and expectations for how
their students will progress after high school. If the skilled trades
interest you, it’s important to broach that conversation at home.
Sometimes, one of the reasons that students don’t think to explore
the skilled trades is that their parents carry the same misconcep-
tions about the trades that were discussed earlier in this book.
Talking through those myths with your family can help everyone
see the trades as the viable career pathway that they are.
