In May 2023, employment in the
manufacturing sector was 12.6 million strong,
according to BLS data. Perhaps even more
notable was the number of job openings
available in the industry that month: 586,000.
Despite significant supply chain disruptions
during the COVID-19 pandemic that impacted
most manufacturers in some way or another,
