are available from the
Associated General Contrac-
tors of America (AGC), the
Automotive Hall of Fame, the
Plumbing-Heating-Cooling
Contractors National Asso-
ciation (PHCC), the National
Housing Endowment, and
even Home Depot. And some
of these scholarships are
substantial! For instance, the
Association for the Science of
HVAC, Refrigeration, and Engi-
neering (ASHVACRE) offers
six sizable scholarships each
year, with the awards usually
worth between $3,000 and
$10,000.
Scholarship opportunities
are especially plentiful for
women interested in entering
the trades. Because so many
of the trades have typically
been male dominated, and
because there is such a
concerted push to get more
women involved in these
career paths, you will find that a fair few of the scholarships out
there for skilled trades students are open to women only. These
include the NAHB Professional Women in Building Strategies for
Success Scholarship (offered by the National Association for Home
Builders), the Jill Read Women in Trades Scholarship, the Women
in HVAC/R Scholarship (offered by Women in HVAC/R, a national
organization of women in the HVAC/R trades), and many others.
